Preparing the Future

Preparing the Future Photo

After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2007, Nick Bush moved to Greensboro to teach 3rd grade at Wiley Elementary School. Greensboro was attractive to Nick for a number of reasons both professionally and personally.  Professionally, the Guilford County School System was a perfect fit because of its large size and opportunities for growth.  Additionally, the number of colleges and universities in the area appealed to Nick because of his interest in pursuing a graduate degree. Outside of professional development opportunities, Nick likes to stay as active as possible and was attracted to the geographic location of Greensboro. Year round, you can find Nick backpacking on the Appalachian Trail or taking weekend trips to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Gorge. In Greensboro, he also loves to use Battleground Park, Lake Brandt, and the greenway trails as a staple for his mountain biking, running, and kayaking throughout the year.  To compliment his active lifestyle, Nick appreciates that Greensboro has a large selection of local dealers such as Cycles DeOro, Great Outdoor Provision Co., and Off n'Running. During his time in Greensboro, Nick has been able to be part of a running club held by Off n' Running and is a member of the Spears Family YMCA, all of which has enabled him to meet more like minded individuals in the area.

Nick says that he is passionate about education for future thinkers and wants to change our system for the better by being part of it at every level. His passion for education has been a catalyst for his success. Nick was named Guilford County School’s Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2008 and received a $10,000 scholarship to UNCG for Graduate Studies. He will pursue a master’s degree at UNCG in 2010. Outside of his daily responsibilities in the classroom, Nick serves on a committee for underrepresented teachers at UNCG and works for a private education tutoring company to get a better perspective on all areas of education. He says, “I believe actions define characters and inaction causes missed opportunities and I never want to miss a thing, “
